Washington> On Saturday, September 20, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump warned Afghanistan that bad things could happen if the country does not return control of the Bagram air base to the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Mr. Trump said, “If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those who built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN.
“Earlier, on Thursday, Mr. Trump mentioned that the U.S. has been trying to get back control of the base, which was used by American forces after the September 11, 2001 attacks. On Friday, he told reporters that he was talking to Afghanistan about this issue.
In 2021, when U.S. troops left Afghanistan, the Taliban took over the base. Afghan officials have been against having U.S. military presence in the country again.Zakir Jalal, an official from Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry, said on Thursday, “Afghanistan and the United States need to talk to each other … without the United States having any military presence in any part of Afghanistan.”
