India’s main fifth-generation fighter jet project, called the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), has reached an important step in making it. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), which is in charge of the design, has started giving work orders for the main parts of the first AMCA model. This is a big change for the project, moving from planning to actual production.According to official reports, these orders started exactly one year after the project was officially launched.
These first orders are for important parts that form the main body of the plane. Getting these parts done on time is key to staying on schedule for the planned test flights. After a strict review, the Request for Proposal (RFP) was sent to just eight Indian companies. This careful choice shows the project’s focus on high-quality engineering and precision, which are important for building a stealth jet. The selected companies are top firms from both public and private sectors in aerospace and defense, known for their strong facilities and experience.
The AMCA is meant to be a twin-engine, multirole stealth fighter. This puts India in a small group of countries that can make such advanced planes. The plane has features like a low radar signature (stealth), the ability to fly at high speeds without using extra fuel (supercruise), and smart systems with artificial intelligence for better awareness of surroundings. Starting production is a big help for India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” plan, which aims for self-reliance in defense.
By having Indian companies build this advanced system, the AMCA project is helping create a specialized industry around defense manufacturing. The next step will be putting all these parts together to make the first full prototype, which will then go through heavy testing before its first flight, expected in the years to come.
